In-Person Competitive Debate

Lincoln Douglas, Public Forum, Parliamentary

In-Person Mtn House, Two-week Camp (Mon-Fri), 11 AM-1 PM

Total 20 hours of instruction in this camp (10 hours each week)

The camp will focus on thoughtful and logical construction of written cases, understanding the order and structure of a debate, and building confidence in delivering speeches (including rebuttals). During the first week of the session, students will focus on the basics, understanding the order and structure of a debate, research skills, and building the case. Students will focus on practice and rebuttals during the second week based on their preference for the debate event. Students will make choices for their competitive debate event towards the end of the class's first week. They will inform coaches of their one option out of the three debate formats: Lincoln Douglas (L/D), Public Forum(P/F), or Parliamentary debate format. By the end of the camp, students will be able to brainstorm the advantages and disadvantages of a proposition, conduct quality research for building a debate case, identify flawed arguments, and feel confident delivering a speech in front of an audience.
