Our Approach
We emphasize building confidence gradually through structured practice and supportive feedback. Our coaches are dedicated to creating a nurturing environment where students feel secure to take intellectual risks and learn from their successes and setbacks. Our program is designed to develop the whole student through debate. We don't just teach competitive tactics, but we foster critical thinking, research skills, and intellectual curiosity that will serve students not only in their academic careers but also in their future professional and personal lives.
Our Beliefs
At Discourse Power, we believe in the transformative power of speech and debate. Our youth competitive speech and debate programs are designed to ignite critical thinking and foster effective communication skills, empowering students to shape their futures confidently and clearly. Our engaging curriculum empowers students to articulate ideas confidently and equips them with practical, persuasive techniques that they can apply in various real-life situations.
Our Classes
Discourse Power understands the needs of our students and their families, which is why we offer various coaching options. We provide in-person group classes in Mountain House, CA, small online classes, and 1-on-1 coaching. Our group classes rates are very cost-effective and provide flexibility to pay in installments. With an average class size of no more than eight students, we keep the instructor-to-student ratio low, ensuring maximum efficiency. The rates for 1-on-1 coaching differ from group classes. Our Coaches
Our coaches are not just experienced, they are passionate individuals with a minimum of three to four years of experience competing at various tournaments at state and national levels, and multiple years of experience participating in invitationals. They are deeply committed to interacting with students on a personalized level, ensuring each student feels valued and supported on their journey to success. Our classes are coached by a team of exceptional candidates who have qualified for the Tournament of Champions (TOC), a highly esteemed and fiercely competitive American high school speech and debate tournament, and also have repeatedly qualified for the NSDA Nationals (National Speech and Debate Association) and CHSSA State Tournament.
What Makes Discourse Power Different?
Our meticulously designed curriculum, a result of the collective experience of our coaches who have excelled in national-level speech and debate events. Our main focus is on skills development and confidence building. We emphasize the importance of practice, with regular drills, mock practices, and some homework, to ensure that our students are well-prepared and confident in their abilities. We offer supplemental hours to help prepare for the tournament to ensure students are ready. Our coaches provide constructive feedback in classes and engage in interactive discussion to maximize the participation from all students. Homework is assigned every week and is an important part for making progress. Our 2024 results indicate that our efforts to develop students' fundamental abilities and grow their passion for learning skills are helping them succeed in tournaments.
